Layer Name: Color Hillshades - 10 meter jpgs Coverage Name: clrhill-.jpg Layer Type: jpeg Geog. Extent: Main Hawaiian Islands Projection: Universal Trans Mercator, Zone 4 (Meters) Datum: NAD83 Description: Color Hillshade GRIDs Source: Hillshade GRIDs created by ESRI Honolulu staff using USGS 10 meter DEMs, 2008. Methodology: Used the following procedure: Using the following "Swiss Hillshade" tool from the ESRI Mapping Center (mappingcenter.esri.com): http://blogs.esri.com/Support/blogs/mappingcenter/archive/2008/10/07/updated-hillshade-toolbox.aspx Ran tool above on the 10 m DEM, as described in the tool directions, resulting in two additional rasters: a high-low raster and a filtered hillshade Applied a color stretch on the DEM elevation, using a color ramp downloaded from the mapping center. Modified the color ramp by adding brown-gray colors for higher elevations in order to account for large elevation difference of Maui and Hawaii in comparison to other, lower islands Downloaded Rainfall layer from State GIS website (http://hawaii.gov/dbedt/gis/rainfall.htm) Using Spatial Analyst Topogrid tool, converted isohyets into grid Applied a color ramp to the rainfall grid Applied transparencies to all layers (high-low, filtered hillshade, elevation, rainfall) until desired effect was achieved. Exported dataframe from ArcMap as a jpg with a world file.
