The administrative relief includes the suspension of tax return audits, mailing of official notices, or other actions involving the assessment and collection of Hawaii State taxes.

Family members of detained taxpayers or military personnel must contact the Department of Taxation in order for such taxpayers or military personnel to be considered for administrative relief. For family members residing on Oahu, the telephone number to call is: 548-4242, during regular business hours. For family members residing on the neighbor islands or out of State, the toll free number to call is: 1-800-222-3229.

The person calling the Department should be prepared to provide the name, address, and social security number of the taxpayer. If the taxpayer has received correspondence or has established a collection account, the Department should also be advised.
